Rah-rah Radishes! with Resident Holistic Nutritionist, Sheri McConaghie
After her weekly visit to Trinity Bellwood’s Farmer’s Market, Sheri provides us with the plentiful, nutritional benefits of radishes and a quick and easy way to prepare the spicy root:
My happy place! Farmer’s markets are a great place to pick up farm fresh healthy dinners! On the menu tonight: Radishes! As a kid, I remember watching a remake of the fairytale Rapunzel where the cobbler’s wife had an obsession with radishes. The sight of the radishes filled her (and me) with a great desire to have some and my love of radishes was born!
These spicy, crunchy, bright red root veggies can be eaten both raw and cooked. Their leaves are just as versatile and delicious sautéed with EVOO, garlic and S&P. Low calorie, full of antioxidants, electrolytes, vitamins, minerals and fibre. They are also great for hormone balancing as they are high in b6 which supports progesterone production and riboflavin for the thyroid. As they also support the liver in metabolizing hormones, they can be very helpful to anyone suffering from PMS.
Simply served with a dressing of EVOO, white wine vinegar, Dijon, honey, S&P, and dill. Serve with grilled/smoked Ontario trout and you’ll have yourself a nutritious and balanced meal. This #summersalad will keep you cool and on trend this hot summer weekend! Enjoy!
