What type of Body Work do you practice?

I practice Usui Reiki, it is a form of energy healing. By placing my hands on different parts of the body, I allow my intuition to guide me to areas of deficiency or excess. Each client presents in a unique manner and symptoms will manifest in their lives either on a physical, mental or emotional level.  As the Reiki Therapist, I help to either release or draw more energy in to these different areas.

What inspired you to take up this practice? What do you love most about it?

I initially started studying this practice just out of curiosity. I had been receiving treatments from Dany Lyne who does Reiki, Cranial Sacral and is also a Bone Whisperer and an intuitive.  What seemed to be a somewhat subtle practice was having a profound effect on me for days and weeks after a treatment. In 2013 I decided to attend Dany’s series of Reiki Workshops, and I became enthralled with the detailed information connecting the physical and energetic body to the mental and emotional aspects of each person. The workshops also had a strong focus on meditation, as practicing Reiki requires the ability to get quiet, be still and to listen. Then in 2014 I became pregnant, and my pregnancy led me to make some very big changes in my life.  The first few months of my pregnancy were difficult, I was experiencing a lot of fear and having a hard time connecting to my pregnancy and I was still very stuck in some of my old addictive patterns.   In the Spring, at about 4 months pregnant, I decided to make some drastic life changes by leaving the job I had been at for close to 8 years and also doing whatever it took to move away from my nicotine and caffeine addictions.   All the while, I was receiving treatments from Dany Lyne.  These sessions helped to bring a whole new level of clarity to the situations being presented to me.

I immersed myself in Dany’s Reiki workshops again, since leaving my job and dealing with the withdrawal effects I really needed to focus my energy.   Plus, I knew I would just be adding on to the learning I had received the year prior.

I believe the Reiki work I did over the last few months of my pregnancy was one of the reasons I had a relatively comfortable pregnancy and I was able to labor and birth my daughter at home.    Through Reiki I was really learning to be at home in my body, I was practicing meditation, and viewing birth as an intimate and spiritual experience helped me to focus on the beauty and not the fear of the pain.

Upon completing my Reiki certification I’ve been working at the Kyla Fox Centre, an eating disorder recovery centre with a holistic view to healing.

I love working with the clients at The Kyla Fox Centre.  It is mostly young woman who are very disconnected from their bodies working hard on their recovery.   I enjoy the hour of one on one time I have with them, to gently encourage them to come back to themselves.    I would describe it as a change from Thinking about their bodies to actually living IN their bodies. Overall, the work I do with all of my Reiki clients is to help them come home to themselves.

What can people expect from a treatment with you? What is your unique approach to body work?

Clients are asked to wear comfortable clothing and to lie on a massage table while I gently place or hover my hands over different areas of the body guided by intuition and sensation. The objective of the session is to stimulate the self-healing process by guiding the client into a meditative state.   In order to initiate this process of guiding the focus inside, much of the session will be in silence.   In every session clients will be provided with a safe and welcoming space to explore whatever sensations, thoughts or emotions may rise to the surface.   Clients are encouraged to ask questions and express any concerns that may arise.

With the stimulation of the self-healing process, clients may find in the days and weeks after a treatment they have more clarity around issues in their lives where they may have been stuck in the past, a stronger emotional connection to life, a shift in patterns and/or relationships, and an overall sense of re-balancing of the body.
