Simone NitzanSimone Nitzan came to yoga after many years in competitive sports. She discovered yoga as a young adult and soon found herself giving up her previous athletic pursuits for early morning Mysore practice. After completing a Bachelors and Masters degree in exercise physiology, she dedicated herself to teaching yoga. Simone spent over four years living and teaching yoga in Tel Aviv at Lotus Yoga School. Having been in and out of Toronto for many years to practice with her teachers Ron Reid and Marla Meenakshi Joy, Simone is very excited to be back in Toronto to reconnect to her roots and to join the community at the Downward Dog Yoga Centre.

Simone began practicing Yoga in 2005. In 2006 Simone travelled to India for the first time, and fell in love with the level of reverence and way of life she witnessed there. Upon her return to Canada she decided to dedicate herself to a Mysore self practice. Simone began a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology at the University of British Columbia and met Kevin Grodesky. Kevin was Simone’s first real teacher and she began practicing with him every morning at Babylon, a grassroots and underground Mysore community in Vancouver.

Shortly thereafter, Simone met Ron Reid, Kevin’s teacher, and she quickly recognized that Ron would be her teacher. Simone has practiced with Ron on and off for the last 8 years, while living in Vancouver and then in Tel Aviv. Simone also travelled to various parts of the world to study with Ron, and has hosted him in Tel Aviv while she was living there.

Simone taught Mysore at the Lotus Yoga School in Tel Aviv, from 2012-2014. In 2014 Simone moved back to Toronto (her hometown) for the first time in 13 years, and she has been teaching Mysore at Downward Dog Yoga Centre since.

Simone is passionate about Mysore and is honoured to share this practice with all who are open to taking the journey of self-discovery. Simone brings a unique understanding of the physical body, as well as injury prevention and care to the Mysore room. It is her aim to create a room where all people feel welcome and capable. Simone is excited to work with each individual, helping them find a practice that works and empowers them.
